The UCC Small Business Development Center offers no-cost business counseling and classes on a wide variety of topics.  New SBDC – UCC Workshops are currently being offered.

The Oregon Secretary of State offers a guide for starting a new business that will step you through the key aspects of incorporation and business registration.  

 

 

“Yes” Young Entrepreneur Society of Umpqua Valley/Roseburg

Created in 2011 by a couple of young entrepreneurs who were interested in “Making Things Happen”in Roseburg / Douglas County. The group has monthly “pub get togethers” or “meetups” with other young entrepreneurs trying to fill in some of the missing ingredients in Douglas County.  Young Entrepreneurs Society of Roseburg: Network. NeighborWorks Umpqua offers additional resources to community and businesses.

  • Umpqua Local Goods recently open in the Grand Hotel, 736 Cass Ave., Roseburg.  NeighborWorks Umpqua in conjunction with the Phoenix Charter School  have created a business to provide hands-on business education for students while offering a retail outlet and a community and commercial kitchen for vendors in Douglas County. 
  •  Dream $avers is a matched-savings program, for individuals with low or moderate incomes. Dream$avers will match participants savings, up to three times, for education, home purchase, or starting a business. Dream$avers will also provide you with training, goal setting and support to help you achieve your savings goal.
  • Medal Program  The Microenterprise Development and Learning (MEDAL) Program supports small businesses and growing our local economy. MEDAL focuses on the nuts and bolts of a business, providing: 1) education on personal and professional finance; 2) guidance on investigating the viability of business ideas; 3) connections with non-traditional sources of capital; and 4) connections with the local business community and entrepreneur networks.  Learning opportunity workshops are available for business owners.

 

Umpqua Business Center

Since June of 2012 The Umpqua Business Center has been providing office space on flexible terms to early stage businesses, along with coaching and other services. The model is often referred to as a Business Incubator . Services are available for both clients that want office space, and for “virtual” tenants which just need services, such as a mailing address and meeting space. Conference and event rooms are available to tenants and to members of the public.

 

SCORE (Service Corps Of Retired Executives)

Our local SCORE chapter counsels individuals considering new businesses… they can be reached through the Roseburg Area Chamber of Commerce (541 672-2648, ext. 17).

 

UCC  Southern Oregon Wine Institute (SOWI) and Incubator

The Southern Oregon Wine Institute, also known as SOWI, is a division of Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. It was established in 2008, as a wine education program to serve a 7 county area in southern Oregon, including Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Coos, Curry, Klamath and southern Lane counties. Students receive instructions in a 24,000 square-foot, certified state-of-the-art center that offers an array of educational programs and services designed to support growers and winemakers. The Event center is also available for conferences, meetings and receptions. SOWI also includes an incubator, where wine-makers can begin their process of growing a brand without having to invest the capital necessary to purchase all of the equipment necessary to being a modern winery.
