Federal Contracting – Introduction to GSA’s Federal Supply Schedules (FSS)

The Pacific Northwest Defense Coalition (PNDC) and the Government Contract Assistance Program (GCAP) will be hosting an introductory webinar on General Services Administration (GSA) Federal Supply Schedules (FSS) contracts. Training Topics:

  • Background information on the formation, development, and reasoning for GSA’s FSS procurement vehicle
  • The necessary steps to obtain, manage, and market a GSA FSS contract
  • How and why federal contracting officers use this procurement tool and the advantages to a prospective vendor in obtaining a GSA FSS contract
  • Small business certifications and how they apply to GSA’s FSS

New Intellectual Property (IP) Resources:

Business USA is a new federal website intended to assist small businesses and inventors with intellectual property.  It offers a number of resources — such as an introduction to IP topics.


There is also an Understanding Intellectual Property tool developed by BusinessUSA in coordination with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to guide users through the steps of understanding and protecting intellectual property.  Finally, there is USPTO’s IP Awareness Assessment tool which determines how much you know about various IP issues, and recommends materials and resources to learn more.

Umpqua Dairy Cleaned up at Quality Chekd Dairies national awards yet again, winning the 2015 National Production Excellence Award in both the cultured products and ice cream categories. Umpqua Dairy also won the Outstanding Marketing Achievement award for its “POW, Power of Protein Cottage Cheese” promotion.


Roseburg Forest Products CEO Allyn Ford gave his annual update on the state of timber industry at the May Roseburg Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon. Shortly thereafter, the feds released some rather promising housing starts data


Bandon Dunes is working on a creative land swap with the state to add a municipal golf course


Grant Opportunities

City of Roseburg Tourism Grants support projects and events that bring overnight visitors to the area.

Deadline to apply is June 19


The new Oregon Wine Country Plates Matching Grant Program will make awards for wine and culinary tourism promotion projects and initiatives that contribute to “a better life for Oregonians through strong, sustainable local economies.” Eligible Applicants are incorporated nonprofit or government units responsible for tourism promotion. Successful grant projects and initiatives must be directly related to the promotion of wine and culinary tourism in Oregon.  

The Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) Guaranteed Loans and Grants can help fund projects include renewable energy systems, such as solar, biomass, and wind, as well as energy efficiency improvements, including building and industrial projects.  Eligible borrowers include rural small businesses and agricultural producers.
