Funding Available to Support New Employee Training

Umpqua Training and Employment currently has funds to assist with On the Job Training (OJT). The program can partially reimburse employers for wages paid during the training period, up to 12 weeks. Employers must be able to document the skill gap that the training will overcome. Contact Susie Marical at UT&E employer services.

 

LeanLink Lunch — Learning from Local Models

Local companies Motel 6, Terrain Tamers, and Ingram Books will share their company process improvement approaches. Noon, Tuesday, December 17. RSVP to The Partnership. LeanLink is an   industry-led consortium dedicated to education and training around continuous process improvement.

Recent News

Senator Wyden recently held a town hall meeting in Coos Bay and made several positive statements regarding the Jordan Cove/Pacific Connector project.

Gardiner Sanitary District is planning to take steps to improve and up-grade sanitary sewer connections with Reedsport.

BLM   announced plans to move forward with land closure near Myrtle Creek to allow White Castle timber sale to move forward.

Progress continues on rail tunnel project to improve access for southern Oregon lumber producers.

 

RAIN Conference Update

The first Roseburg Area Angel Investor Network conference took place on November 13, 2013 at the Danny Lang Event Center at UCC. Homeschool Technical Apparel was the launch stage winner and Caregiver Cards won the concept stage.  Congratulations!  We would like to thank all the companies that competed, and the investors. Preparations for next year’s event are underway.

A similar effort based in Medford will take place in the spring: Southern Oregon Angel Investment Network seeks new round of businesses for possible investment of $200,000.

 

Training Opportunities

The Oregon Wood Innovation Center at OSU will be offering their third annual Workshop on Quality Control in Wood Products Manufacturing December 16-17 at OSU in Corvallis. Additional information.

 

UCC’s schedule of classes for Winter 2014 is now available on-line.  Classes on starting your own business, business software, Quick Books, and business skills such as distribution and logistics management, conflict management, and negotiation tactics are all available.
