Freight Rail Service to Coast Has Re-Opened

Thanks to some pretty heroic efforts by the Port of Coos Bay, with significant support from the State of Oregon and the Federal government, freight rail service between the Port of Coos Bay and Eugene has been restored. Trains are operating under the name Coos Bay Rail Link as of October 2011.

Service will be restored for several major employers, lowering shipping costs for Roseburg Forest Products and Georgia Pacific, for example. It also restores freight access for the Reedsport operation of American Bridge, allowing that company to bid on additional projects. Finally, it re-establishes freight service for the Gardiner former-International Paper site, a massive (200+acre) industrial site that is one of the largest available in Oregon.
